COT attends Alliance Party Conference
Kate Lesslar, COT Northern Ireland Policy Officer, attended the Alliance Party Conference at the Dunadry on Saturday 23 January 2010. Kate Lesslar along with Tom Sullivan, Chartered Society of Physiotherapy Policy Officer and Julie McCaughan, Podiatry Policy Officer met with Kieran McCarthy, Alliance Party Health Spokesperson and Cllr Alan McDowell, Alliance Party. As well as informing Mr McCarthy and Mr Mc Dowell about the up and coming AHPFNI Launch in the Long Gallery at Stormont on 2 March 2010 the Policy Officers also raised some issues such as representation for allied health professionals. There was also some opportunity for Kate Lesslar to bring up profession specific issues such as concerns occupational therapists had about service level agreements between Education and Health and Social Services in Northern Ireland for occupational therapy services into schools.

The Policy Officers also met David Young from the Alliance Party Policy Department and spoke about their manifesto process and how they could put forward some items AHPs would like to see included for consideration. Political parties prepare electoral manifestos and a manifesto can be basically a public declaration of principles, intentions, policies, aims,
etc.

The Policy Officers are intending to follow up regarding this. If you have thoughts as to what you would like to see on political party manifestos or have any queries please contact Kate.Lesslar@cot.co.uk
