Welcome to the Public Forum for OTs with disabilities, which aims to help people with disabilities access resources for education and work as occupational therapists.

Background

The Public Forum for OTs with disabilities was established by a group of occupational therapists and students with varying disabilities. We came together in response to the publication of articles in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy (BJOT ) and OTN in December 2003, which raised concerns about the barriers disabled people may experience in education and employment.

Our concern was to highlight the need for a national support network for OTs and those who wish to train as OTs who have disabilities so that we could provide and share advice, guidance, and information.

Philosophy

This site is managed and authored entirely by people with different impairments. We hope that we can accurately represent the interests of disabled people, as there are a number of organisations in the disability world which are run by non-disabled people and as a result are badly placed to reflect our interests and wishes. All the articles written on this site are authored by people with disabilities.
