Membership & External Affairs
The Membership and External Affairs Department is responsible for developing and delivering an annual member-centred operational plan
The main activities of the Membership and External Affairs Department are about understanding the needs of members and translating this knowledge into developing existing products and services and introducing new ones in close collaboration with a wide range of colleagues.
Key activity strands for Membership and External Affairs are:
- providing opportunities for professional and associate member participation at regional and local level
- member recruitment initiatives
- publishing the evidence base for the professional in the British Journal of Occupational Therapy (BJOT)
- sharing best practice and news through the monthly membership magazine Occupational Therapy News (OTN)
- providing a multi-way communication resource via the website
- maximising advertising revenue to contribute to the organisation's ability to deliver an effective programme for the membership and the profession
The Membership and External Affairs Department also works with Unison colleagues to provide union support to BAOT members. It provides the secretariat for the Council of Occupational Therapists for the European Countries (COTEC) and supports the work of COTEC and World Federation of Occupational Therapists delegates.
The Department's key activities in support of the Strategic Plan include the launch of a new website and membership database and a new look BJOT and OTN. Member networking is high on the agenda and we are planning local and regional events and introducing professional network on our new site to enable this.
